The tower is a thirty-three-metre concrete cylinder topped with a yellow sphere bearing an enormous grinning face — eyes shut, cheeks rosy, mouth wide open in laughter. It is the unmistakable landmark of Lolland and the reason Sakskøbing markets itself as "the smiling town."
You can see it from the motorway approach and from kilometres out at sea. There is no entry — it is a working water tower — but the small park at its base is fine for a photo. The face is best lit late in the afternoon when the sun catches the cheeks; in winter it can look slightly haunting against grey Lolland skies.
