Møllerporten

Brick gate tower from 1450, the only surviving piece of Stege's medieval wall

The Møllerporten is the surviving gate of the medieval wall that once ringed Stege. Built in red brick around 1450, it is one of only three such town gates left in Denmark and the most complete. The mill that gave it its name once stood directly above; the tower's upper rooms now house a small local museum.

The gate frames a short brick-paved street that connects what used to be the inside of the town to the moat (now a long pond and park). It is the photograph everyone takes in Stege, and the small park that runs along the old ramparts is a pleasant five-minute detour from Storegade.
