Rakvere Theatre

Founded in 1940 and one of Estonia's two main regional theatres — much-loved, well funded, and impressively prolific for a town of 15,000. The building itself is a sober inter-war affair on the western edge of the old town.

The repertoire is in Estonian, but if you are in town in late August or early September check the Baltoscandal international fringe festival, which the theatre hosts and which is mostly performed in English or with surtitles. Otherwise the bar is a pleasant evening stop in its own right.
