Café Werner

One of Tartu's oldest and most beloved cafés, Werner has occupied its spot on Ülikooli Street near the university since the 19th century (in various forms and under various names through the Soviet period). The current café serves good coffee, pastries, and light meals in a setting that still feels like a proper European café rather than a chain.

A natural stop for coffee and cake while walking Ülikooli Street, and one of the better places to simply sit and watch the student and academic life of the street. The terrace tables in summer are usually full by mid-morning.
