Soup Neighbourhood

Wooden-house district of Tartu, known for quiet streets with vegetable-themed names.

Tartu's Soup Neighbourhood, or Supilinn, is a low-rise district of wooden houses, gardens, and narrow streets just outside the polished university centre. Its street names refer to vegetables and pantry staples, which gives the area its playful English nickname.

The neighbourhood is best explored slowly on foot or by bike. It shows a softer, more residential Tartu: weathered timber houses, local cafes, and a lived-in atmosphere that balances the city's museums, university buildings, and riverfront.
