Lake Viljandi Beach sits at the foot of the valley, close enough to the centre that it feels like part of town rather than an excursion. In summer it is the easy place to swim, sit in the grass, or look back up at the castle hills.
Even outside swimming weather, the lake is worth the descent. The shoreline paths give Viljandi its breathing room and make clear why the town feels more open than many inland Estonian towns.
