Lake Eiði

Moorland lake above Eiði, used for hydropower and backed by open Faroese hills.

Lake Eiði, or Eiðisvatn, lies just inland from the village on the high ground that leads toward Slættaratindur. It is not a dramatic postcard stop in the way Risin og Kellingin is, but it gives a good sense of northern Eysturoy's moorland scale: low water, dark grass, and mountains folding away toward the east.

The lake is tied into the Faroes' hydroelectric system, so the landscape here mixes wild weather with practical infrastructure. It is worth a pause if you are driving the mountain road, especially when cloud shadows are moving fast across the water.
