Risin og Kellingin

Legendary sea stacks just offshore from Eiði, known as the Giant and the Witch.

Risin og Kellingin are the two sea stacks standing off the northern coast of Eysturoy, close to Eiði. Risin, the Giant, is the broader stack farther from shore; Kellingin, the Witch, is the sharper one nearer the cliff. They are not huge by Faroese standards, but the setting gives them real force: black rock, white surf, and the open Atlantic behind them.

The easiest views are from the road and lay-bys above Eiði, especially on the route toward Gjogv. Bring a long lens if you want photographs. On windy days the stacks can look almost theatrical, with spray tearing across the water below Eiðiskollur.

A story
The Faroese legend says giants in Iceland sent the giant and the witch to drag the Faroe Islands back across the sea. They tied a rope to Eiðiskollur, but dawn caught them before they could finish, turning both into stone.
