The lighthouse on Mykineshólmur marks the westernmost inhabited edge of the Faroes. Built in 1909, it sits at the end of the walking route across the islet, with open ocean beyond and the main island rising behind.
The lighthouse is less about the building than the journey to it. In clear weather the walk feels exhilarating; in mist or strong wind it can become serious very quickly. Turn back if visibility drops, and remember that the return boat does not wait for late walkers.
