Mykines Village

Tiny western village and landing point for walks across Mykines.

Mykines village is the only settlement on the island, a compact group of houses set above the landing place. It once held a much larger permanent population; today the atmosphere is quieter, with many houses used seasonally and visitors arriving in bursts when the boat lands.

Do not rush through it. The village gives the island its human scale: turf roofs, sheep fences, the church, and the practical business of living somewhere the weather can isolate for days. It is also the place to check local access rules before heading toward the puffin slopes and Mykineshólmur.
