Mykineshólmur

Outer islet west of Mykines, linked by footbridge and surrounded by seabird cliffs.

Mykineshólmur is the small islet west of Mykines, reached by the classic footpath from the village. The walk crosses open slopes, seabird nesting areas, and a narrow bridge above the channel before continuing toward the lighthouse at the far end.

This is the part of Mykines most visitors picture: puffins close to the path, gannets wheeling offshore, and steep grass falling straight into the Atlantic. Stay on marked routes and obey any seasonal closures. The birds are the reason to come, and they are under pressure from too many careless feet.

A story
Mykineshólmur is connected to the main island by a footbridge over Holmgjógv. In bad weather that short crossing can feel like the edge of the world, which is exactly why the lighthouse keepers' old commute has become the island's signature walk.
