Hvalbiareiði

The headland west of Hvalba, also called Fiskieiði, is one of the more dramatic stretches of coast on Suðuroy. Sea cliffs drop sharply to the Atlantic, and on a clear day you can see sea stacks, gulls wheeling in the updraft, and the long Atlantic swell breaking against the rock.

A walking path leads from the village out over the moor to the cliff edge. It is exposed and there are no railings, so it is not a walk for bad weather or for anyone uncertain on their feet. In summer the moorland is full of nesting birds.
