Bøur to Gásadalur Hike

A well-marked trail connects Bøur and Gásadalur, covering about 5 km each way over open moorland with significant elevation gain. The path climbs steeply out of Bøur, crosses a col with views back over Sørvágsfjørður and Tindhólmur, then descends to Gásadalur sitting above sea cliffs on the northwest tip of Vágoy.

The destination is Mulafossur waterfall, which drops from the cliff edge directly into the North Atlantic below Gásadalur. Allow 2–3 hours each way. Wear waterproof layers regardless of the forecast — conditions change fast on the exposed moorland. The trail is straightforward but boggy in places; proper walking boots are essential.

A story
Until a tunnel opened in 2004, Gásadalur was one of the most isolated villages in the Faroes — accessible only by a steep mountain path or by helicopter. The path from Bøur was the only overland route. Now the village gets day visitors by car, but the hike remains the better way to arrive.
