Imatran Valtionhotelli is the castle-like hotel beside the rapids, built in 1903 for the visitors who came to see Imatrankoski when it was one of Finland's great natural sights. Its towers and romantic silhouette make sense only in that old tourist context: this was meant to frame a spectacle.
You do not need to stay here to appreciate it. Seen from the gorge or the bridge, the building is part of the whole Imatra scene: water, rock, park, and a hotel grand enough for the age of railway tourism.
