Kilpisjärvi is on the E8, near the Norwegian border and the junction onward to Skibotn. It is a long drive from southern Finland, and winter conditions can be serious on both sides of the border.
Long-distance buses link Kilpisjärvi with Finnish Lapland in season, and some services continue toward Tromsø. Check current timetables carefully; in the far north, missing the bus can mean losing a day.
