Malla Strict Nature Reserve protects the fells, birch scrub, wetlands, and rare northern plants northwest of Kilpisjärvi. It is strict for a reason: walkers must stay on marked trails in summer, and camping is limited to permitted spots.
The Malla trail is the classic route toward the Three-Country Cairn. Even a shorter walk into the reserve gives a strong sense of the place, with open views toward Swedish and Norwegian mountains.
