Pori Jazz Festival

Every July for roughly nine days, Kirjurinluoto Island transforms into one of Scandinavia's most enjoyable music festivals. The open-air main stage and the smaller riverside stages host an eclectic mix of international headliners and Finnish acts — jazz in name, broad in practice. Tickets for headliner evenings sell fast; some daytime and riverside events are free.

The festival atmosphere extends into the town centre, with concerts in restaurants, bars, and public squares. If you're traveling in Finland in July, this is worth timing your trip around. The combination of long Nordic summer evenings, riverside setting, and genuine musical quality is hard to beat.

A story
Pori Jazz started in 1966 as a small local event and has grown into one of Europe's longest-running jazz festivals. The festival famously mixes genres — in recent decades it has hosted rock, soul, and pop acts alongside jazz — earning both criticism and credit for its broad appeal. Miles Davis, Ray Charles, and B.B. King all played Kirjurinluoto in its golden era.
