Yyteri Beach

About 17 kilometres west of Pori, Yyteri is one of the finest beaches in Finland — a long stretch of white sand backed by pine-covered dunes, with the open expanse of the Gulf of Bothnia in front. The water is shallow and warms up reasonably by Finnish standards in July and August. The dunes behind the beach are protected, with marked nature trails through the pine forest.

Services at Yyteri include a hotel, beach bar, minigolf, and watersports rental in summer. The beach gets busy on hot days in July but rarely feels crowded given its size. Out of season it's atmospheric in a bleaker, Baltic way. Bus connections run from Pori centre in summer; a car makes it more flexible.

A story
Yyteri is one of the longest sandy beaches in the Nordic countries — about 6 kilometres of fine quartz sand backed by dunes up to 30 metres high. The beach and dune system is a protected nature reserve, and kite surfing championships are held here regularly thanks to the reliable coastal winds off the Gulf of Bothnia.
