Porvoo is 50 km east of Helsinki and straightforward to reach. Expressbus (route 848) runs from Helsinki's Kamppi terminal multiple times an hour and takes about an hour. In summer (May to September), the historical steamboat M/S J.L. Runeberg makes the scenic journey up the coast, departing from Helsinki's Market Square at 10am and returning in the evening.
By car the drive from Helsinki takes about 45 minutes on the E18 motorway. There is no direct train connection; the nearest station is at Kerava, connected by bus to Porvoo.
