Le Fréti

Long-running savoyard cheese institution on Rue Sainte-Claire

Le Fréti has been doing tartiflette, raclette and fondue on Rue Sainte-Claire since 1972 and is one of the few old-town cheese-restaurants that has not been replaced by a younger and worse imitation. The dining rooms are upstairs above the family's affineur shop downstairs — the cheese boards are pulled straight from the cellar.

Reliable, generous, expensive enough that the locals are still willing to come, and one of the few places in the centre where a fondue moitié-moitié (Beaufort and Comté) actually tastes like the mountains. Reserve in season.
