Pont des Amours

Iron lattice footbridge of 1907, the most kissed-on bridge in the French Alps

The Pont des Amours is a small green iron footbridge thrown across the entrance of the Canal du Vassé, connecting the Jardins de l'Europe to the Pâquier. It was built in 1907 to a then-fashionable lattice design and has been called the Lovers' Bridge ever since — local tradition holds that a couple kissing at its midpoint will stay together forever.

Whether or not you bring a partner, walk across it at sunset: the view down the Canal du Vassé framed between the rows of plane trees is one of the classic Annecy photographs.
