Ceillac's ski area sits above the village at around 2,100–2,450 metres and deliberately remains small. There are around a dozen pistes ranging from gentle nursery slopes to a few satisfying red runs, served by simple drag lifts and a couple of chairlifts. The key virtue is the absence of the queues and crowds that plague more famous resorts.
Cross-country skiing is equally well developed, with marked trails through the forest and across the high meadows. Because the ski area is kept physically separate from the village, you can ski back to the slopes without the area feeling like a purpose-built resort. The mountain restaurant at the top of the main lift is basic but does a good soup and tartiflette at lunchtime.
