Château de Beaucastel

One of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's most celebrated estates

Château de Beaucastel is one of the most famous and consistently praised estates in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, sitting just north of the village on the road to Orange. The Perrin family has run the estate for over a century, and their wines — particularly the red, built on a backbone of old-vine Mourvèdre — age for decades and are sought by collectors worldwide.

The estate is unusual in using all thirteen permitted grape varieties of the appellation. Visits and tastings are available by appointment. Even if you do not make it inside, the stone buildings and the surrounding garrigue — scrubland of lavender, thyme and rosemary — make for a pleasant stop on any southern Rhône wine route.

A story
Beaucastel is unusual in the appellation for planting all thirteen permitted grape varieties — most producers work with three or four. The estate has been in the Perrin family since 1909, and the same family now has wine estates in California and Spain. Visits by appointment only.
