Château Val Seille

19th-century chateau housing the town hall, set in formal parkland

Château Val Seille is an ornate mid-19th century manor that has served as Courthézon's town hall since 1956. Built in 1868 for a wealthy maritime entrepreneur, it is sometimes called the Petit Versailles Provençal for its formal gardens, which include ornamental pools, grottos, fountains, a rose garden, centennial trees and an aviary.

The park is open to the public and makes a pleasant afternoon walk. The building itself is a handsome mix of styles, with a glass-and-iron winter garden. The old village centre just below, with its 12th-century ramparts still largely intact and three original medieval gates, is worth exploring on foot.
