Mulhouse's New Quarter grew in the 19th century between the old town, the canal, and the railway. Around Place de la Republique, banks, offices, and town houses show the confidence of a city made wealthy by industry.
It is a good short walk between the historic centre and the station, especially if you are interested in the more urban side of Alsace beyond half-timbered old towns.
