Half-timbered canal quarter with medieval towers and bridges

The most picturesque quarter of Strasbourg: a network of canals and narrow streets lined with 16th- and 17th-century half-timbered houses, originally home to tanners, millers, and fishermen. The Ponts Couverts — three medieval towers connected by footbridges — mark the western edge of the quarter. It is inevitably touristy, but the architecture is genuine and worth seeing at dusk when the crowds thin.
