Cap-Ferret Lighthouse

Historic lighthouse on the Cap Ferret peninsula, with sweeping views over Arcachon Bay, the oyster beds, and the Atlantic.

Cap-Ferret Lighthouse is one of the best fixed viewpoints on Arcachon Bay. From the top, the geography suddenly makes sense: the long peninsula, the oyster villages, the tidal channels, the Dune du Pilat across the water, and the Atlantic breaking beyond the headland.

The climb is short but steep enough to feel earned, and it is worth timing for clear weather rather than treating it as a rainy-day fallback. The lighthouse also works well as an anchor for a broader Cap Ferret outing, with beaches, oyster shacks, and the Pointe du Cap Ferret all within the same peninsula circuit.
