Arcachon rewards slow exploration. The Ville d'Hiver hill district and the bay shore are the two poles of interest, with the Dune du Pilat a short drive south. Boat trips onto the bay are excellent, particularly to the Île aux Oiseaux with its famous oyster-hut cabanas.
