Petit Bayonne, the quarter on the east bank of the Nive, is the neighbourhood for bars and nightlife. The Rue des Cordeliers and the riverfront quays have clusters of bars that fill up in the evenings, with a strong Basque identity — local txakoli wine, Basque cider, and Izarra herbal liqueur feature alongside the usual French options.
During the Fêtes de Bayonne, the bars simply stay open from noon to the following morning for five consecutive days, and the distinction between bar and street dissolves entirely.
