Jardin Botanique de Bayonne

The Jardin Botanique de Bayonne, also known as the Jardin des Remparts, is a small but well-maintained botanical garden set against the old city ramparts, just southwest of the cathedral. It contains around 1,000 plant species and is particularly pleasant in spring when the borders are at their best.

The garden occupies the space between Vauban's 17th-century ramparts and the old town, making it an unusual combination of fortification history and botanical collection. It is a free, peaceful spot to rest and gives one of the better views of the cathedral towers. The garden is modest in size — a circuit takes 20 minutes — but the setting against the old walls is attractive.
