Les Eyzies is the undisputed capital of French prehistory. The valley of the Vézère river holds the highest concentration of prehistoric sites in the world, and most of them are within a few kilometres of the village. Priority one is Font-de-Gaume — one of the last caves in Europe with accessible original polychrome paintings. Book well ahead; visitor numbers are strictly capped.
