Rue Alsace-Lorraine

Rue Alsace-Lorraine is the main pedestrian shopping street through the old centre of Saintes. It is a good place for an unhurried walk, with side lanes leading off toward older houses, churches, and the Charente riverfront.

Many facades date from the 17th and 18th centuries, with some medieval buildings still mixed in. Treat it as a short heritage walk rather than a single monument, especially if you are already linking the Arch of Germanicus, the cathedral, and the amphitheatre.
