The Chateau des Ducs de La Tremoille dominates Thouars from its defensive ledge above the river. Built in the 17th century, it has the long, severe facade of a noble residence rather than the fantasy turrets of a Loire chateau.
The building is used as a school, so interiors are not the point. Come for the outside, the chapel and stables, and the view over the Thouet, where the old fortress geography of the town becomes obvious.
