The Prince de Galles Tower is one of the clearest remains of Thouars' medieval defences. Built for the fortified town, it later served more ordinary uses, including storage and prison space, which is exactly how old military buildings tend to survive.
It is a good stop because it makes the ramparts legible. Stand here and the town's position above the Thouet feels less picturesque and more strategic.
