Parc Montjuzet climbs the northern side of Clermont-Ferrand and gives the city one of its easiest views: black-lava cathedral towers, dense roofs, and the volcanic line of the ChaƮne des Puys beyond. It is a local park, but the setting makes it more than a picnic lawn.
The paths are good for a slow hour between museums and churches. Bring water in summer, when the climb feels steeper than it looks, and time the visit for late afternoon if you want soft light over the old centre.
