Collégiale Saint-André

A Romanesque church on the Eure, partly ruined, that hosts exhibitions and outdoor events

The Collégiale Saint-André is a Romanesque church on the banks of the Eure that lost its choir when the riverside road was widened in the 19th century, leaving it with a truncated, semi-ruined look that is oddly appealing. The nave survives intact and is now used as an exhibition and cultural space; the roofless choir end, with its views over the river, is used for outdoor events in summer.

The church stands near the bottom of the Tertre Saint-Nicolas, one of the old stepped lanes that connect the lower Eure quarter to the cathedral plateau above. It is a five-minute detour from the riverside walk and worth a look.
