Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez is about 50 km southwest of Lyon and 30 km from Saint-Étienne. A car is essentially essential — there is no public transport to the village. From Lyon, take the A47 motorway towards Saint-Étienne and exit at Rive-de-Gier, then follow D30 and local roads through the hills; the drive takes about an hour. From Saint-Étienne, it is a 30-minute drive via the D30.
The nearest train station is at Rive-de-Gier on the Lyon–Saint-Étienne line, about 8 km away; from there a taxi is the only option. The village can be combined with a visit to the Pilat hills more generally, making a fine day or half-day excursion from either city.
