Tulle is the capital of Corrèze, but it feels less like an administrative centre than a long, narrow town squeezed into the valley of the Corrèze river. The streets climb sharply from the water, stone houses lean into the slope, and the old quarter still has the slightly workaday feel of a place that was never polished for tourists.
The main sight is Tulle Cathedral, a sober Gothic church with a peaceful medieval cloister attached. Tulle is also proud of two more unusual crafts: fine needle lace and accordions. The Cité de l'Accordéon et des Patrimoines brings those local obsessions together with the city's old arms-making history.
Tulle is not a headline stop like Limoges, but it makes sense if you are crossing the southern Limousin slowly. Come for half a day, walk the riverfront and the lanes around the cathedral, and use it as a base for the green Corrèze countryside rather than expecting a polished museum city.
