A 12th-century monastic barn belonging to Clairvaux Abbey, the vaulted cellar at Colombé-le-Sec is a fine example of rural Cistercian construction — austere, well-proportioned, built to last. The Cistercians were great agricultural innovators, and their granges (farm outbuildings) were as carefully designed as their churches. This one is about 10 km north of Clairvaux and can be visited as part of the broader abbey heritage circuit.
