Gosset

Oldest wine house in Champagne, founded 1584

Gosset bills itself as the oldest wine house in Champagne, founded in 1584 — it predates the methode champenoise itself and originally produced still red wines from Pinot Noir. The house moved to Epernay from its original home in Ay in 2009 and now occupies elegant new premises on the southern side of town.

The style is restrained and chalky, with the malolactic fermentation deliberately blocked — a deliberate contrast to the rounder, creamier styles of some neighbours. Tours and tastings are by appointment.
