The Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Remi is a magnificent Romanesque and Gothic complex that was the shrine of the Holy Ampula — the flask of sacred oil used to anoint French kings at their coronations. The abbey now houses the Museum of History and Archaeology, with collections spanning Gallo-Roman antiquity through the medieval period. The abbey church itself, begun in the 11th century, is one of the finest Romanesque buildings in Champagne.
