Bastia is Corsica's main port and its best-connected city. Bastia-Poretta Airport lies about 24 kilometres south of the city and receives regular flights from Paris (multiple daily), Lyon, Marseille, Nice, and several other French cities, as well as seasonal flights from other European cities. Air France and Air Corsica operate the main domestic routes. A shuttle bus links the airport to the city centre.
By sea, Bastia is the island's principal ferry hub. Corsica Ferries, La Méridionale, Moby Lines, and Tirrenia all operate routes from Nice, Marseille, Toulon, Livorno, Piombino, Savona, and Genoa. Crossing times range from about 3 hours (Nice to Bastia by fast ferry) to 12 hours overnight. The ferry terminal is directly adjacent to the Place Saint-Nicolas, making arrival very convenient for the centre.
Within Corsica, buses connect Bastia to Ajaccio, Calvi, and the main towns, though the network is limited and the car is usually more practical for exploring the island.
