Porte Narbonnaise

The Porte Narbonnaise is the great eastern gate of the Cité, the main public entrance and the most heavily defended point on the wall. Two massive round towers flank the gate, with a deep machicolated passage between them and a portcullis slot still visible overhead.

The bridge in front of the gate now spans a dry ditch but originally crossed a moat. A small information centre sits to one side of the entrance — useful for picking up maps and joining one of the timed Château tours.
