Carcassonne's Cité is the main attraction — a medieval fortress city you can walk through freely. The Château Comtal and the Basilica of Saints Nazarius and Celsus are the highlights inside the walls. Beyond the fortifications, the Bastide Saint-Louis is the real working town, and the Canal du Midi passes just north for walking, cycling, or boat trips.
