The hills south of town are planted with vines that produce Coteaux d'Ancenis, an appellation so small it barely registers outside the Loire. The wines are unusual: the white Malvoisie (a local name for Pinot Gris) is rich and slightly honeyed; the red is mostly Gamay, light and good with a chill in summer. A few producers also make Muscadet here, though the heart of that appellation lies further west towards Nantes.
Several domaines operate cellar doors and welcome visitors without appointment from spring through autumn — just ring the bell. The most straightforward approach is to follow the D763 south from town into the hamlet of Saint-Géréon and ask at the first farm sign you see. Prices are reasonable, and most producers sell by the bottle or the case.
