The painter Emmanuel Lansyer (1835-1893), born in Bouin in the Vendée, settled in Loches in the 1870s and bought a small house wedged into the citadel walls just below the Logis Royal. The house has been preserved with his furniture, his library, his collections of Japanese prints and Persian ceramics, and several rooms of his own landscape paintings -- views of Brittany, the Loire, and the Alps.
The museum is small, idiosyncratic, and rarely crowded. The little garden has the best private view of the citadel keep. Opening hours are limited; check at the tourist office. The ticket combines with the Logis Royal.
