Place du Marché aux Fleurs

The triangular flower-market square in the lower town, with the Wednesday and Saturday markets

The Place du Marché aux Fleurs is the daily heart of Loches, a small triangular space below the citadel and around the corner from the Tour Saint-Antoine. The cafes around the edge keep their tables out from May to October, and the Wednesday and Saturday morning markets fill the square and spill into the surrounding streets.

The Loches market is one of the best in this part of the Loire, with goat's cheese from the south, mushrooms from the local forests, river fish, and the Sainte-Maure log-shaped cheese with its straw running through the middle. Saturdays are bigger and busier than Wednesdays.
