The medieval heart of Tours, lined on all sides with 15th-century half-timbered houses. The square and the lanes radiating from it — especially Rue du Grand Marché and Rue de la Rôtisserie — are the most attractive part of the old city. In the evening the café terraces fill quickly; in the morning it's quieter and the carved timber facades are easier to appreciate.
