Quartier de la Cathédrale

The cathedral quarter is the eastern half of the medieval Cité, the part of the city that grew up inside the walls of the late-Roman fortifications. It is quieter and less commercial than the Vieux Tours to the west — more residential, with stone townhouses, a couple of museums, and the curve of the lost Roman amphitheatre running through the back streets.

Highlights are the cathedral itself, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in the former Archbishop's Palace, and La Psalette cloister tucked behind the cathedral. The Place Grégoire de Tours, immediately south of the cathedral, has one of the best cafés in this part of the city for a quiet drink.
