Caen is served by Caen–Carpiquet Airport, a small regional airport with scheduled services to Lyon, Marseille, and a handful of other French cities. International visitors will generally fly into Paris and continue by train: the journey from Paris Saint-Lazare takes about two hours on direct TGV services, with regular departures throughout the day.
The Brittany Ferries terminal at Ouistreham, 15 kilometres north of the city, connects Caen to Portsmouth in the UK. The crossing takes about six hours on daytime sailings and eleven hours overnight. A shuttle bus and taxi service run between the ferry port and Caen city centre. This is a practical and popular route for visitors arriving from Britain who want to explore Normandy by car.
By road, Caen sits on the A13 autoroute from Paris (about 220 kilometres) and the A84 connecting Brittany to the east. Parking is available near the castle and at several car parks in the centre.
